Two Local Women Create Children's Book

You will love "Coffee with Orange Sherbert"

Coffee with Orange Sherbert? Does that sound yummy to you or not? Well it will sound yummy and heartwarming when you learn it is the name of a lovely little children’s book by two local women.

Coffee with Orange Sherbert is the true story of a newspaper reporter and the cat she grew to love. S.E. Shell is the author of Coffee with Orange Sherbert and Mary Elizabeth Smith is the illustrator for the book. You can meet them both at a book signing at Mostly Books on Saturday February 2^nd from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The book is a happy little tale (or tail?) and makes a wonderful bedtime story that children can relate to. Orange Sherbert, an orange tabby cat, is a recognizable feline, in fact, he looks just like my own cat Atticus. I’m sure he is like many cats in Gig Harbor " perhaps even yours.

The book is geared to children six and up. Shell says she had always wanted to write a novel about Orange Sherbert, and her experience in Brookings Oregon Starting with a children’s book however, has inspired her to possibly consider making Orange Sherbert a series.

The illustrations by local artist Mary Elizabeth Smith really bring the book (and Orange Sherbert) to life. Mary’s long history of maritime art made it a perfect fit. Mary’s art is also on the cover of the book, but a limited edition run of the book sports another version of the cover by 14 year old Tova Beck of Gig Harbor.

Shell and Smith are very excited about the response so far to the book. The Pierce County Library system will be carrying the book in all 18 of their branches and the pair is currently talking with the Peninsula School District. The book is available at Mostly Books and the Gig Harbor BoatShop, both on Harborview Drive. The hardback retails for $18.99 and the paperback is $14.99. The book is also available at www.amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com and www.fastpencil.com.

But the best way to get the book is to come down to Mostly Books on Saturday February 2^nd. Author and artist will be on hand to sign your copy. It’s a great day to come downtown anyway, to enjoy the Art Walk and the Art of Chocolate, along with the book signing event.

Support local authors, artists and entrepreneurs and enjoy Coffee with Orange Sherbert. I’m going to snuggle up with my cat Atticus tonight, and read him a bed time story!

NOTE " I haven’t misspelled Sherbert…this is indeed the way the cat’s name is spelled.
