Fireworks Are Now Illegal in the City of Gig Harbor

Last summer City Council passed an Ordinance banning the sale and discharge of fireworks in city limits.

2023 is the first year that the full ban is in effect. Also starting in 2023, Pierce County (outside of Gig Harbor city limits) will only allow fireworks on July 4 and December 31.

Council enacted the ban in response to concerns raised by residents who noted the negative impact fireworks can have on the health and welfare of people and animals. It was also in response to record-breaking heatwaves creating extreme fire danger risk and the potential for similar conditions to occur again in the future.

The City Council is considering options for a 2024 City-sponsored 4th of July event.

Violations of the fireworks ban can be reported by calling the non-emergency dispatch line at (253) 287-4455 and selecting option 5. The dispatch line can be used to report violations inside and outside of city limits.
